Men's Volleyball Splits Tri-Match At MIT

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL SPLITS TRI-MATCH AT MIT

CAMBRIDGE, MA, Feb. 28, 2009 - Elms College sophomore outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) and freshman outside hitter Sequiel Sanchez Velez (San Sebastian, Puerto Rico) combined for 61 kills to help lead the Blazers to a split of Saturday's men's volleyball tri-match at MIT.

The Blazers (10-11, 6-3 NECVA New England) fell to host MIT 3-1 (30-32, 30-24, 30-28, 30-16), but rebounded with a 3-0 (30-26, 30-8, 30-14) sweep over Emerson in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

In the loss to MIT, Sanchez Velez led the Blazers with a match-high 19 kills and Bravo finished with 18 kills, senior libero Marc Carrasco (Tucson, AZ) collected 18 kills and freshman setter Jesus Echevarria (San Juan, Puerto Rico) handed out 43 assists.

In the win over Emerson, Sanchez Velez tallied 11 kills, a .611 hitting percentage, 10 digs, eight aces, and two blocks, while Bravo recorded 13 kills, a .524 hitting percentage, and two blocks.

Sophomore outside hitter Carlos DeLeon-Gomez posted eight digs, while Echevarria and junior setter Ivan Andujar (Carolina, Puerto Rico) combined for 43 assists.

Elms College returns to North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division play at Daniel Webster next Saturday, March 7. Match time is 1:00 p.m.
