NASHUA, NH, March 7, 2009 - Sophomores outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) notched a match-high 17 kills and sophomore outside hitter Carlos DeLeon-Gomez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) added 14 kills and 13 digs to guide Elms College to a 3-0 (30-21, 30-23, 30-20) sweep at Daniel Webster in Saturday's North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Divisional men's volleyball match at Vagge Gymnasium.

Senior libero Marc Carrasco (Safford, AZ) added seven kills and a match-high 20 digs as the Blazers (11-11 overall, 7-3 NECVA New England) won for the fourth time in their last five outings.

Freshman outside hitters Chris Shannon (Ronkonkoma, NY) and Ian Catenzaro (Londonderry, NH) led the Eagles (3-9, 2-8 NECVA) with 11 kills each, while junior setter Eric Smith (Clay, NY) added 26 assists and six digs.

Bravo paced the Elms College attack early on, registering three quick kills in the opening set as the Blazers built an 11-5 lead. Twice the Eagles pulled to within five, but the Blazers took control with an 8-1 run midway through the set ending with a Gomez kill and a 22-12 lead. Gomez would close out the set with another kill for the 30-23 win.

Kills from freshman middle blocker Steven Frick (Londonderry, NH) and Shannon helped spark an early run in game two as the Eagles built a 7-4 lead. A kill from sophomore opposite Justin Masse (Hudson, NH) later made it a 10-9 lead for Daniel Webster, but Elms College answered with back-to-back kills from Gomez and freshman outside hitter Mike Kleckner (Bethlehem, PA) followed by a Bravo block to give the Blazers the lead for good at 15-14.

The Eagles cobbled together a 6-5 lead in the third after a Catenzaro ace, but Elms College followed with four straight points, including a tip by junior setter Ivan Andujar (Carolina, Puerto Rico) and the Blazers did not trail the rest of the way.

Elms College visits Division II University of New Haven in a non-conference match on Tuesday, March 10. First serve is 7:00 p.m.
