Men's Volleyball Sweeps NECC Weekly Honors

BRAVO, SANCHEZ VELEZ SWEEP WEEKLY NECC MEN'S VOLLEYBALL HONORS

ATTLEBORO, MA, March 16, 2009 - Elms College men's volleyball sophomore outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) and freshman outside hitter Sequiel Sanchez Velez (San Sebastian, Puerto Rico) both received weekly honors from the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) on Monday, March 16.

Bravo was named NECC Player of the Week for the fourth time in five weeks, as he averaged 4.86 kills and 2.29 digs in a 2-0 week for the Blazers that included a 3-0 win at Division II New Haven and 3-1 upset win over NECVA New England Division frontrunner and previously unbeaten 14th-ranked Endicott.

In the win over Endicott, Bravo hammered out a match-high 23 kills.

Sanchez Velez was also honored for the fourth time in five weeks, as he was named NECC Rookie of the Week. For the week, he tallied 32 kills, added 15 digs and had eight total blocks that included a sizzling .600 hitting night (12 kills, zero errors, 20 attacks) in the Blazers' win over New Haven.

The Blazers (13-11), who have won four straight and six of seven to begin the week, are atop the current NECC standings at 5-1 and are second in the NECVA New England Division at 8-3.
