Men's Volleyball Cruises Past Southern Vermont, 3-0

CHICOPEE, MA., Feb. 16, 2008 - Elms College freshman middle blocker Curt Despard (Enfield, CT) hammered down a match high 18 kills on 23 attempts to lead the Blazers in a decisive 3-0 (30-17, 30-10, 30-14) win over Southern Vermont in Saturday afternoon's North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division men's volleyball match at the Maguire Center. 

With the second win over the Mountaineers in a week Elms College improves to 7-5 overall, 2-2 NECVA New England.  Southern Vermont remains winless at 0-8, 0-3 NECVA New England.

Junior outside hitter Marc Carrasco (Tucson, AZ) recorded a match-high 16 assists and freshman outside hitter Carlos DeLeon-Gomez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) contributed seven service-aces in the victory.

Southern Vermont senior middle-hitter Keith Upham (West Fairlee, VT) and senior outside-hitter Brandon Dean (Petersburgh, NY) each recorded three kills in the losing effort.  Sophomore outside hitter Peter Winchester (West Winfield, NY) handed out a team-high five assists.

Elms College returns to conference play at Johnson and Wales Thursday, February 17.  Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
