Men's Volleyball Sweeps Lesley, 3-0

CHICOPEE, MA, March 25, 2008 - Elms College freshman middle blocker Curt Despard (Enfield, CT) connected for a match-high 11 kills and the Blazers rolled to their sixth straight win with a 3-0 (30-18, 30-22, 30-12) sweep over Lesley in Tuesday night's North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) men's volleyball match at the Maguire Center.

The Blazers, who also won for the ninth time in 10 matches, improved to 18-8 overall, 8-2 NECVA New England. A win over Endicott this Saturday, March 25 would clinch Elms College's first-ever berth into the NECVA Tournament.

Lesley concluded its third intercollegiate season 2-17, 1-10 NECVA New England.

Freshman middle hitter Sam Batista (Carolina, Puerto Rico) knocked down a collegiate career-high eight kills and added four total blocks for the Blazers, who hit .357 in game one (16-6-28) and .448 in game three (17-4-29).

Elms College sophomore setter Ivan Andujar (Carolina, Puerto Rico) registered match-highs with 35 assists and four service aces in the victory.

Freshman middle hitter Mike Labagh (Elizabethtown, PA) was solid for the Lynx, as he finished with a team-high nine kills and three block solos in the losing effort.

Elms College returns to non-conference play when it hosts Mount Ida in a makeup match on Wednesday, March 26. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Maguire Center.
