Men's Volleyball Rolls To Three Wins At York Tournament

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL ROLLS TO THREE WINS AT THE YORK TOURNAMENT

JAMAICA, NY, March 15, 2008 - Elms College freshman outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) hammered down a combined 41 kills, sophomore setter Ivan Andujar (Carolina, Puerto Rico) handed out a combined 135 assists and four other players recorded 20 or more kills to help the men's volleyball team sweep all three of its matches at the York Tournament on Saturday.

The Blazers opened the morning with an easy 3-0 (30-27, 30-24, 30-18) win over NJCU, then downed NYCCT 3-1 (30-21, 30-21, 22-30, 30-23) before closing out the tournament with a convincing 3-0 (30-14, 30-18, 30-26) victory over York.

With the sweep on Saturday, Elms College won for the sixth time in its last seven matches to improve to 15-8 overall.

Freshman outside hitter Carlos DeLeon-Gomez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) knocked down 22 kills and added 36 digs, while freshman outside hitter Sam Batista (Carolina, Puerto Rico), junior outside hitter Marc Carrasco (Tucson, AZ) and freshman middle blocker Curt Despard (Enfield, CT) all added 21 kills apiece on the day.

Andujar, who registered 192 assists over the two-day tournament, was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Blazers.

The Blazers, who hit a combined .293 in the three matches, return to North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division play when they host Rivier College on Monday, March 17. Match time at the Maguire Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
