MAHWAH, NJ, April 4, 2008 - Elms College freshman outside hitters Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) and Carlos DeLeon-Gomez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) combined for 33 kills, but No. 3 Nazareth fought off a spirited rally to earn a 3-1 (30-28, 30-21, 28-30, 33-31) win over the No. 14 Blazers in the first round of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Tournament on Friday night at Ramapo College.

With the loss, Elms College was eliminated from the tournament, but concluded its most successful season in the program's six-year history at 19-10.

Nazareth (28-6), which held the No. 1 ranking in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III poll earlier this season, advanced to Saturday's second round.

The Golden Flyers roared out to win games one and two after hitting .312 (16-6-32) and .393 (14-3-28), respectively.

Bravo and DeLeon-Gomez came alive for the Blazers in game three, as the two combined for 11 kills to help lead Elms College to a 30-28 win.

In the fourth game, the Blazers held game-point at 31-30, but the Golden Flyers fought back with three straight points to seal the victory.

Sophomore setter Ivan Andujar (Carolina, Puerto Rico) and freshman middle blocker Curt Despard (Enfield, CT) were solid for the Blazers. Andujar finished with 47 assists, three aces, four digs and five block assists, while Despard added nine kills and a match-high seven block assists.
