STANDISH, Maine – Elms College freshman
swimmer Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) broke
two school records and earned three first place finishes, while
sophomore swimmer Zachary LeBarron (Bennington,
V.T.) finished first in two events to help pace the
men’s and women’s swimming teams to victory over St.
Joseph College (Maine) on Saturday.
The women’s team earned a 149-109 win, while the men earned a
115-76 victory. The women’s team is now 1-1 on the season,
while the men move to 1-0.
Dudunake clocked a blazing time of 58.37 in the 100-yard freestyle
to set a school record, besting Kaity-Jo Bryll’s mark of
59.61 set in 2006. Dudunake also set a school mark in the 100-yard
individual medley by registering a time of 1:07.03, topping Liz
Walker’s time of 1:08.84 set in 2007.
Dudunake notched an impressive time of 1:13.39 in the 100-yard
breaststroke to garner top honors in the event. She was also the
anchor leg for the Blazers in the 200-yard freestyle relay, joining
freshmen Chalis Bird (Windsor, Mass.) and
Emalee Furtek (Ludlow, Mass.), as well as junior
Theresa Pitassi (Naugatuck, Conn.) that scored a
winning time of 1:49.87.
Bird finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (27.78), while Pitassi
surged through the water in 6:09.16 to capture a come-from-behind
win in the 500-yard freestyle.
Freshman Ashley Arbo (Kensington, Conn.) also won
a pair of events: the 50-yard butterfly (29.96) and the 100-yard
backstroke, while sophomore Katie Roberts (Torrington,
Conn.) won the 50-yard breaststroke.
For the men, LeBarron clocked top times in the 50-yard freestyle
(22.65) and the 100-yard freestyle (52.43), while sophomore
Nick Provost (Three Rivers, Mass.) garnered top
honors in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.51) and the 100-yard
butterfly (1:02.86).
Sophomore Garrett Brune (Lakeville, Mass.), senior
Mike Starke (Chicopee, Mass.), and freshman
Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.) clocked
times of 31.21, 32.68 and 34.03 respectively to earn the top three
slots in the 50-yard breaststroke.
The women’s team returns to the pool on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at
Smith, while the men’s team is back in action on Saturday,
Nov. 21 at Colby-Sawyer.
