Men's Swimming Earns Program-Record 9th Place Finish At NEISDA Championship

BRISTOL, RI, March 1, 2009 -  Elms College freshman men's swimmer Zach LeBarron (Bennington, VT) earned the men's swim team's highest individual finish on Sunday and the Blazers set eight new school records in the final day of competition en route to a program-record ninth place finish in the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championship at Roger Williams University.

Elms College tallied 88 points in the three-day championship to narrowly squeak past Bridgewater State (87).

Keene State led from start-to-finish as it collected 629 points to earn team championship honors. Bentley (552), Roger Williams (333), Norwich (296) and St. Michael's (271) rounded out the top five.

In Sunday's final day of completion, LeBarron placed sixth in the finals of the 100-yard freestyle (50.55).

Freshman Adam Tonnesen (Norwich, CT) posted a pair of top 10 finishes over the final day, as he placed seventh in the finals of the 50-yard backstroke (26.57) and ninth in the finals of the 100-yard individual medley (58.01).

LeBarron and Tonnesen later teamed with sophomore Joe King (Springfield, MA) and junior Jason DiMauro (New Hartford, CT) to clock a school-record time of 3:26.65 in the 400-yard freestyle relay en route to an eighth place finish.

Over the three days of competition at the NEISDA Championship, Elms College, which set a new program-record with five regular season dual-meet victories, posted 48 school records.
