Men's Swimming 10th After Day 1 Of NEISDA Championship

BRISTOL, RI, Feb. 27, 2009 - Elms College freshman Zach LeBarron (Bennington, VT) combined for two individual and two relay school-records, as the men's swim team recorded a total of 12 new school-marks and stands 10th following the first day of the 2009 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championship hosted at Roger Williams University.

The Blazers tallied 32 points following the first day and narrowly trail eighth place Colby-Sawyer (36) and ninth place Bridgewater State (35).

Keene State leads the 13-team field with a total of 235 points. Bentley (168), Roger Williams (126), UMass-Dartmouth (119) and Norwich (107) round out the top five.

For the Blazers, LeBarron joined freshman Adam Tonnesen (Norwich, CT), sophomore Joe King (Springfield, MA) and junior Jason DiMauro (New Hartford, CT) to set a new school-record in the finals of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.35).

LeBarron and Tonnesen later teamed with freshman Garrett Brune (Lakeville, MA) and sophomore Nick Whitman (Florence, MA) to clock a new school-record in the finals of the 400-yard medley relay (3:54.28).

LeBarron also established a pair of individual records in two different events swimming the 50-yard freestyle.

Provost notched a new record in his ninth place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.39), Brune eclipsed his own record in the 50-yard breaststroke (29.54), and Tonnesen led off the 400-yard medley relay with a school-record 58.53 in the 50-yard backstroke.

Earlier in the day, Elms College set five school records to account for their record-setting day.

The Blazers return to action in the second day of the NEISDA Championship on Saturday, February 28. Trials begin at 9:00 a.m.
