Men's Swimming Ninth After Second Day Of NEISDA Championship

BRISTOL, RI, Feb. 28, 2009 - Elms College freshmen Garrett Brune (Lakeville, MA), Adam Tonnesen (Norwich, CT) and Nick Provost (Three Rivers, MA) set a pair of school-records each to highlight the Blazers' second day of competition in the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championship at Roger Williams University.

The Blazers, who were 10th following the first day, moved up to ninth in the 13-team field with 56 points.

Keene State (447), Bentley (352), Roger Williams (233), Norwich (213) and St. Michaels (192) are currently the top five teams.

Brune and Provost began the day with a school-mark each, as Brune set a new record in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.13), while Provost clocked a new school-record time in the 400-yard individual medley (4:37.15).

In the evening session, Brune teamed with Tonnesen, and classmates Zach LeBarron (Bennington, VT) and Tyler Filault (North Adams, MA) to break the school-record in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.13).

Tonnesen, who set a new 50-yard backstroke record (27.07) in the opening leg of that relay, later set a new record en route to a ninth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (57.82).

Provost added his second record of the day when he teamed with junior Jason DiMauro (New Hartford, CT), sophomore Joe King (Springfield, MA) and sophomore Nick Whitman (Florence, MA) in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:56.81).

The Blazers, who have already set 20 new school records through the first two days of competition, conclude the NEISDA Championship on Sunday, March 1.
