Swimming Teams Defeat St. Joseph's College

CHICOPEE, MA, Dec. 8, 2007 - Elms College senior Kaity Jo Bryll (East Hartland, CT) won three individual events and Jason DiMauro (New Hartford, CT) placed first in the 800-meter freestyle and the 50-meter freestyle to help lead the men's and women's swim teams to a victory over St. Joseph's College in Saturday afternoon's double-dual meet at Partyka Natatorium.

The women's swimming team defeated St. Joseph's College 140-114 to improve to an overall record of 3-5.  The men's swimming team recorded its first win of the season, downing St. Joseph's College 84-39 to move to 1-5.

Bryll dominated the competition, placing first in the 200-meter freestyle (2:30.55), the 50-meter freestyle (30.58) and the 50-meter butterfly (35.49).  Elms College sophomore Liz Walker (Holyoke, MA) outpaced competitors to finish first in both the 50-meter breaststroke (37.70) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:22.85).

Elms College sophomore Kathleen Towle (Brockton, MA) contributed to the Blazer victory by winning both the 800-meter freestyle (11:20.52) and the 400-meter freestyle (5:35.68).

DiMauro earned a first place finish in the 50-meter freestyle (28.20), barely edging St. Joseph's junior Nick Zecher (Mansfield, MA) who recorded a time of 28.80.  DiMauro swam uncontested in the 800-meter freestyle and clocked a time of 10:10.30. 

Blazer freshman Nick Whitman (Florence, MA) recorded a first place finish, completing the 100-meter backstroke in a time of 1:16.57.

Both the men's and women's swimming teams return to action hosting Mount Saint Mary on January 12, 2008.  The meet is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
