CHICOPEE, MA. Jan. 12, 2007 - Elms College freshman Nick Whitman (Florence, MA) set a school record time in the 100-meter butterfly (1:09.71), but could not stop the men's swimming team from being defeated by Mount St. Mary's College 116-75 in Saturday afternoon's double-dual meet at Partyka Natatorium.

The loss drops Elms College to a mark of 1-6 on the season.

In addition to his victory in the 100-meter butterfly Whitman finished first in the 400-meter freestyle (5:03.43).

Whitman was not the only Elms College swimmer to change the record books on Saturday.  Blazer freshman Joe King (Springfield, MA) clocked a program best time in the 200-meter backstroke (2:38.04).  King also placed first in the 50-meter backstroke, clocking a time of 33.62.

Elms College sophomore Jason DiMauro (New Hartford, CT) outpaced competitors in the 200-meter breaststroke, recording a winning time of 2:59.96.

The Blue Knights were led by senior Matt Peters (Middletown, N.Y.), who took first place in three individual events.  Peters won the 200-meter freestyle (2:09.02), the 50-meter breaststroke (35.89) and the 200-meter backstroke (2:26.73).

The men's swim team returns to action Saturday, January 19 at UMASS Dartmouth.  Meet time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
