Men's Swimming 12th After Day One Of NEISDA Championship

BRISTOL, RI, Feb. 22, 2008 - Elms College freshmen Nick Whitman (Florence, MA) and Joe King (Springfield, MA) each clocked new school records, and the Blazers stood 12th after the first day of the 2008 New England Men's Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championship at Roger Williams University.

Keene State tallied 225 points to take the first day lead. Bentley (191), Norwich (105), Bryant (96), Roger Williams (91), UMass-Dartmouth (72), St. Michael's (46), Bridgewater State (28), Salem State (26), Gordon (20), Colby-Sawyer (11), Elms Colege (6), University of New England (4) and Regis (3) rounded out the 14-team field.

Whitman set a new school-mark in the preliminaries of the 100-yard butterfly (58.81), while King posted a new school-record in the preliminaries of the 200-yard backstroke (2:22.69).

Whitman and King also teamed with sophomores Mike Starke (Chicopee, MA) and Jason DiMauro (New Hartford, CT) to place 12th in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.58) and 11th in the 400-yard medley relay (4:12.02).

The NEISDA Championship continues on Saturday, February 23 at Roger Williams University. Trials begin at 9:00 a.m.
