 MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO WPI, 2-0

CHICOPEE, MA. Oct. 1, 2008 - Elms College freshman goalkeeper Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, MA) turned aside five shots, but WPI struck for two goals in a 2:41 span midway through the first half en route to a 2-0 shutout win over the Blazers in Wednesday night's non-conference men's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the win, WPI evened its record at 4-4, while Elms College lost its fifth straight and fell to 3-7.

Junior defender Tommy Zajac (Merrimack, NH) opened the scoring at 24:33 with his team-leading third goal of the year off a cross from sophomore forward Mike Ford (Whitman, MA)

The Engineers extended their lead to 2-0 just 2:41 later when senior forward Jonathon Zwirko (Holyoke, MA) deposited a header past Sullivan. Ford collected his second assist of the match on the goal.

WPI sophomore goalkeeper Kirk Dragsbaek (Sherborn, MA) stopped three shots to post his second shutout of the season.

The Engineers held advantages in both shots (25-6), and corner kicks (9-1).

Elms College resumes New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play when it hosts Daniel Webster on Saturday, October 4th.  Game time is 3:00 p.m.
