MEN'S SOCCER SLIPS TO SALEM STATE, 3-1

CHICOPEE, MA, Oct. 17, 2007 - Elms College sophomore forward T.J. Nevue (Palmer, MA) netted his team-leading seventh goal of the year, but Salem State scored two goals in the final 14 minutes to pull away to a 3-1 win over the Blazers in Wednesday's non-conference men's soccer game at Leary Field.

Salem State improved to 10-4-1 overall with the win, while Elms College fell to 4-9-1.

Senior midfielder Alex Kakambouras (Melrose, MA) opened the scoring with his third goal of the year in the 18th minute to give the Vikings a quick 1-0 lead.

Junior forward Jared Barbosa (Lowell, MA) extended the Vikings' advantage to 2-0 with his third goal of the year in the 77th minute off an assist from freshman midfielder Alvaro Pontes (Cambridge, Cape Verde).

Nevue pulled the Blazers to within a goal with 3:26 remaining as he broke past two defenders and rifled a shot past Salem State freshman goalkeeper Gabriel Gonzalez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico).

Junior forward Willer Nogueira (Everett, MA), however, put the game away for the Vikings with his fifth goal of the year just 83 seconds later.

Gonzalez finished with four stops to earn his third win of the year for the Vikings, who improved to 4-1-1 in their last six games.

Junior goalkeeper Nick Pellegrini (Ludlow, MA) stopped 10 shots for the Blazers, who were outshot by the Vikings 21-10.

Elms College concludes regular season play with North Atlantic Conference (NAC) games at Husson (October 20) and Maine Maritime (October 21).
