MEN'S GOLF WINS BLAZERS INVITATIONAL

CHICOPEE, MA, Oct. 4, 2006 - Elms College junior Neil Daigneault (Ludlow, MA) carded a round of 2-over par 73, but Nichols College had all four scorers place in the top 10 individually en route to team championship honors at Wednesday's Blazers Invitational men's golf tournament at Chicopee Country Club.

Freshman Pat Pio (Somers, CT) was the only golfer in the 40-player field to reach even-par, as he carded a 71 for Nichols, which registered a team score of 300 to top the eight-team field. Pio carded five birdies in his round, including two in the opening three holes to pace the Bison.

Worcester State College (310), Springfield College (313), UMass-Dartmouth (322), Elms College (322), MCLA (335), Emerson College (364) and Newbury College (457) rounded out the field.

Nichols sophomore Chris Brock (Pomfret Center, CT) tied Daigneault for second with his 2-over 73, while sophomore Chris Healy (Charlton, MA) and senior Matt Lanava (Auburn, MA) each tied for 10th overall with 7-over par 78's for the Bison.

Daigneault's round of 73 for the Blazers included third birdies and an eagle - one of only two made on the day.

Springfield had all five of its players place in the top 20 overall, including two in the top 10.

Sophomore Greg Levings (Averill Park, NY) finished fifth with a 4-over 75 and senior Andrew Wright (Hampden, MA) tied for seventh with a 77 for the Pride.

Elms College freshman Ben Kwiatkowski (Chicopee, MA) fired a collegiate career-best round of 77 to tie for seventh, while seniors Jim Hurlbut (Roxbury, CT) and Matt Walsh (Springfield, MA) carded rounds of 86.

The Blazers return to action when they compete at the ECAC Division III Championship on Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8.
