FARMINGTON, ME, Nov. 21, 2008 - Elms College sophomore guard Dan Gonzalez (East Windsor, CT) and junior forward Javon Mathis (West Hartford, CT) netted 14 points apiece and the No. 25 Blazers poured in a program-record 69 first half points en route to a 110-44 trouncing of the University of Maine-Presque Isle in the first round of the men's basketball Hight Chevrolet Tournament hosted by the University of Maine-Farmington.

A total of 17 players scored for Elms College, which improved to 3-0 and now advances to Saturday's 3:00 p.m. championship game to face either Newbury or Maine-Farmington. Maine-Presque Isle (0-1) will play in the 1:00 p.m. consolation game.

Gonzalez dropped in all 14 of his points in just seven minutes of action in the first half, while junior guard Juan Galdon (Holyoke, MA) tallied all nine of his points in just nine minutes of the opening half for the Blazers, who surpassed the previous team-record of 62 first half points set against Becker on January 25, 2006.

Elms College shot a sizzling 63.6-percent from the field and raced out to a 69-16 halftime lead. The 16 points allowed in the first half also set a new program-record for the Blazers.

Sophomore guard Arsenio Avant (Southwest, FL) netted 10 points, while senior guard Joe Esile (Milford, CT) and senior guard Ellis Jones (Roxbury, MA) added eight points apiece.

Elms College held huge advantages in both points in the paint (76-18) and bench scoring (79-7).
