CHICOPEE, MA, Jan. 31, 2009 - Elms College junior guard Juan Galdon (Holyoke, MA) netted a game-high 18 points, including his 1,000th-career point late in the second half as the 13th-ranked Blazers rolled to a convincing 90-60 win over Daniel Webster College in Saturday's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's basketball at the Maguire Center.

Galdon, who came into the game needing 17 points to become the sixth player in program-history to reach 1,000 points, did so on a free throw with 3:39 remaining in regulation. He is now just 175 points away from surpassing Kyle Seyboth '05 (1,175 points) as the program's all-time leading scorer.

For the game, Galdon finished 6 of 14 from the field, including a perfect 4 for 4 from beyond the arc in 29 minutes.

The Blazers, ranked 13th in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, won their seventh straight to improve to 17-1 overall and remained atop the NECC standings at a perfect 7-0. Daniel Webster, currently second in the conference standings, fell to 9-6, 3-2 NECC.

The Eagles trailed 21-13 following a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Steve Savage (Salem, NH) 8:26 into the first half, but Galdon responded with a three of his own before Elms College senior guard Joe Esile (Milford, CT) knocked down back-to-back 3's on the Blazers' next two possessions to swell the lead 30-13.

Elms College rolled off a 28-12 run over the last 11:17 of the first half to build a 49-25 lead at intermission.

The Blazers then ripped off eight more points over the first 91 seconds of the second half behind layups from sophomore forward Juan Alverio (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico), senior forward Malakie Berry (Enfield, CT), senior forward Ellis Jones (Roxbury, MA) and senior guard Aswad Thomas (Hartford, CT) to balloon the Blazers' lead to 57-27.

Three other Elms College players reached double figures, as Aswad Thomas finished with 16 points, Berry scored 12 and senior forward Ronald Thomas (Chicago, IL) added 11 points, including three 3-pointers.

Junior guard Adam Landry (Vernon, CT) and sophomore guard Steve Savage (Salem, NH) finished with 12 points apiece as the only two players to reach double figures for Daniel Webster in the losing effort.

The Blazers outscored the Eagles 29-5 off turnovers and 50-28 in the paint.
