WORCESTER, MA, Dec. 14, 2008 - Senior guard Aswad Thomas (Hartford, CT) netted a season-high 19 points, senior forward Ellis Jones (Malden, MA) added a season-high 13 points and No. 16 Elms College used a key run late in the second half to pull away to a 77-61 win over No. 19 WPI in Sunday's non-conference men's basketball game at Harrington Auditorium.

With the win, the Blazers improved to 9-0 for the first time in program-history. Sunday's win also extended Elms College's regular season win streak to 19 straight dating back to last season.

WPI, meanwhile, fell to 8-2.

The Blazers held a slim 50-48 lead with 8:25 remaining before going on a game-clinching 18-4 run over the next 5:50.

Elms College was sensational from 3-point range, as it knocked down 10 of 17 (58.8-percent) from beyond the arc.

Senior guard Joe Esile (Milford, CT) connected on all 3 of his 3-point attempts for his nine points, Thomas, who also finished with a game-high nine assists, dropped in both of his shots from long distance and sophomore guard Arsenio Avant (Southwest Ranches, FL) added a pair of 3-pointers to spark the winning effort.

For the game, Elms College shot 56.3-percent, including a sizzling 16 of 24 (66.7-percent) from the field in the second half.

Junior guard Juan Galdon (Holyoke, MA) finished with 10 points and four assists, while junior forward Javon Mathis (West Hartford, CT) added nine points in 19 minutes off the bench.

The Blazers return to action against Hobart in the first round of the Regis Tournament on Saturday, January 3. Tip-off is 4:00 p.m.
