BROOKLINE, MA, Feb. 14, 2009 - Elms College sophomore guard Dan Gonzalez (East Windsor, CT) and senior forward Ronald Thomas (Chicago, IL) netted 11 points apiece, as the 12th-ranked Blazers rolled to a 78-59 win over Newbury in Saturday's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's basketball game at Hellenic College.

Elms College (21-1 overall, 11-0 NECC), ranked 12th nationally in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, won its 11th straight to remain atop the NECC standings. The Blazers, who have already posted their fifth straight 20-win season, are now just two wins away from tying last year's school-record of 23 victories.

Newbury lost its second straight and fell to 7-15, 4-7 NECC.

The Blazers shot just 37.5-percent in the first half and led 33-23 at intermission, but came alive in the second half and shot a sizzling 58.6-percent.

Elms College used a balanced offensive attack en route to its 11th straight win, as a total of 14 players scored in the winning effort.

Senior guard Aswad Thomas (Hartford, CT), senior guard Joe Esile (Milford, CT) and junior forward Javon Mathis (West Hartford, CT) all finished with nine points apiece. Aswad Thomas also added a game-high 12 assists and six steals.

The Blazers return to NECC play at Southern Vermont on Tuesday, February 17. Tip-off is 7:00 p.m.
