Thomas Selected To NEBCA Senior All-Star Game

ASWAD THOMAS SELECTED TO PLAY IN NEBCA DIVISION III SENIOR ALL-STAR GAME
Thomas Becomes Fifth Player In Elms College Program-History To Participate

BABSON PARK, MA, April 15, 2009 - Elms College men's basketball senior point guard Aswad Thomas (Hartford, CT) is set to compete in the upcoming New England Basketball Coaches Association (NEBCA) Senior All-Star Game on Sunday, April 19.

Thomas, who graduates as Elms College's all-time steals leader (239) in just two seasons, becomes the fifth player in program-history to participate in the NEBCA event, which is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. tip on the campus of Babson College.

Thomas joins Damien Bradley (2002), Kyle Seyboth (2005), David Williams (2007) and Nate Hawes (2008) as the other Elms College players who have participated. Head coach Ed Silva and assistant coach Todd Dean both also played as seniors during the late 1990's.

As a senior this past season, Thomas finished as the nation's NCAA Division III leader in steals (4.6) and was seventh nationally in assists (7.2).

"I think this a most deserving honor for Aswad," Coach Silva said. "In my opinion, he has been one of the top pure point guards in our region over the last two years, so I find it fitting that he be recognized with the other top seniors in our region."

The game will is made up of seniors from each of New England's nine Division III conferences - the NESCAC, MASCAC, Little East, GNAC, NAC, NECC, UAA, TCCC and NEWMAC.

There are many stars participating who have garnered All-America status as well as All-Region, All-Conference, and Conference Player of the Year honors. The rosters for this year's game were selected by several committees made up of area college coaches.

Founded in 1936, the New England Basketball Coaches Association is comprised of coaches at Division III NCAA institutions in the six-state New England region.
