Men's Basketball Ranked 22nd In Final D3hoops.com Poll

MEN'S BASKETBALL RANKED 22ND IN FINAL 2008-09 D3HOOPS.COM TOP 25 POLL

CHICOPEE, MA, March 30, 2009 - Elms College's men's basketball team was recently ranked 22nd nationally in the final D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll of the 2008-09 season.

The Blazers cracked the D3hoops.com Top 25 for the first time in the program-history with a 25th-place ranking in the preseason poll back in late October.

From there, Elms College remained a fixture in the Top 25, as it was ranked in all 15 polls en route to a school-record 26-2 final mark.

The Blazers set a new team-record as it won its first 10 games of the season to catapult to 11th nationally in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Week 4 Poll.

Following a 66-63 loss at Regis in the 11th game of the season, Elms College reeled off 16 straight wins, capped off by a convincing 105-76 win over Becker in the championship game of the inaugural New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Tournament.

The conference title marked the fifth straight for Elms College, which won each of the last four North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Tournament championships before joining the newly-formed NECC in 2008-09.

The Blazers were then rewarded with one of three Pool B bids into the NCAA Division III Championship to become one of just six schools in the 60-team field to qualify for each of the last five NCAA Division III Championships.

Maryville (11), 2007 national champion Amherst (10), Wooster (7), 2006 national champion Virginia-Wesleyan (5) and WPI (5) were the other five.
