CHICOPEE, MA., Feb. 2, 2008 - Elms College sophomore guard Juan Galdon (Holyoke, MA) led all scorers with 23 points and senior forward Nate Hawes (New Hope, MN) grabbed 13 rebounds to help the Blazers earn a victory over Husson 76-68 in Saturday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game at the Maguire Center.

The victory marks the fourth straight for the Blazers, who improve to 13-6 overall, 6-2 NAC.  Elms College snapped a six-game win streak for Husson, which dropped to 11-8, 6-2 NAC.

Galdon registered 14 of his 23 points in the opening 7:03 of the contest to help the Blazers jump out to an early 19-11 advantage.  Husson rallied using a 20-14 run over the next 9:39 that brought the Eagles within 33-31 with 3:18 remaining in the first half.

Elms College maintained a slight edge over the Eagles for the remainder of the first half, entering intermission with a four point lead. 

Husson sophomore guard Brock Bradford (Kenduskeag, ME) struck first in the second half, burying a jumper 16 seconds into the second half that cut the Blazer lead to 43-41.  The Blazers responded with a 12-5 run over the next 6:06 to extend their lead to 55-46.

Husson proved resilient once again, scoring the next seven points behind a three-pointer by junior forward Scott Kissinger (Islip Terrace, NY) and consecutive buckets by sophomore forward Matt MacKenzie (Warren, ME) to draw to within 55-53.

Elms College took control over the next eight minutes of play, sealing the victory with an 18-9 run that pushed the Blazer advantage to 11 (73-62) with just 3:10 left to play.

In addition to his 13 rebounds, Hawes tallied eight points on 4 of 7 shooting.  Senior guard Randy Hite (Hartford, CT) recorded nine points in 17 minutes.

Elms College forced Husson into 26 turnovers and capitalized with a 30-11 scoring advantage.

Senior guard Sheraud Lee (Bridgeport, CT) netted a team-high 19 points, including 4 of 7 shooting from 3-point range. Bradford, who poured in 35 points in the Eagles' win at Becker on Friday night, was limited to 15 points, and MacKenzie added 14 points and eight rebounds in the losing effort.

The Blazers return to NAC play at Becker Saturday, February 9.  Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
