MEN'S BASKETBALL HOLDS OFF HAMILTON
IN FIRST ROUND OF REES JEWELERS CHRISTMAS CLASSIC
ASHLAND, VA, Dec. 29, 2007 - Elms College sophomore point guard Juan Galdon (Holyoke, MA) dropped in a game-high 21 points to help the Blazers post a 64-54 win over Hamilton College in the first round of the 2007 Rees Jewelers Christmas Classic at Crenshaw Gymnasium.
With the win, the Blazers (8-1) continued their best start in the program's 10-year history. Elms College advances to Sunday's 2:00 p.m. title game against host Randolph-Macon, which rolled to a 91-59 win over Immaculata in Saturday's other first round game.
In Saturday's win, Elms College limited Hamilton to just 40-percent shooting en route to holding an opponent to its lowest offensive output this season.
Junior guard Aswad Thomas (Hartford, CT) finished with 12 points and a game-high eight assists for the Blazers, who connected on 20 of 27 free throws in the second half to pull away from a 27-23 lead at intermission.
