FARMINGTON, ME, Dec. 1, 2007 - Elms College sophomore point guard Juan Galdon (Holyoke, MA) poured in a collegiate career-high 36 points, but Colby College senior guard Mark Gaudet (Bingham, ME) registered a collegiate career-high of his own with 37 points, including the final six points of regulation to help the host Mules post a wild 113-109 non-conference men's basketball win over the Blazers in Saturday's first round of the Colby Invitational in Farmington, Maine.

The loss was the first of the year for Elms College (4-1), which will face Fisher College in Sunday's 12:00 p.m. consolation game. Fisher fell to Maine-Farmington 89-62 in Saturday's other first round game. Colby improved to 4-0 and will meet Maine-Farmington in the title game Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Galdon, who has matched or set new collegiate career-high point totals in three of the Blazers' first five games, was 12 of 22 from the field, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range.

Gaudet, who just had a collegiate-high 29 points in a win over University of New England on Monday, shot 12 for 17 from the field and was 7 for 9 from 3-point range. He also contributed eight rebounds and was 6-for-7 from the foul line.

With Elms College up 91-85, Gaudet nailed a 3-point shot with 1:17 left to cut the lead to 91-88. Gaudet got fouled shooting a 3-point shot with 33 seconds left and calmly nailed all three free throws to tie the game at 91-91.

The Mules scored the first eight points of overtime to go up 99-91, but Elms College battled back and cut the lead to 99-97 on a score by freshman center Juan Alverio (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) with 2:27 remaining. The Mules, though, got a lay-up from freshman forward Michael Russell (Wellesley, MA) and then a 3-point shot from Gaudet with 1:34 left for a 104-97 lead.

Artie Curtone (Garden City, NY) had 26 points on 9 of 13 shooting for the Mules. Mac Simpson (Casco, ME) added 24 points, while Russell finished with a double-double at 16 points and 12 rebounds. Adam Choice (Newport, RI) Colby's leading scorer, was held to six points yet he managed eight assists and five rebounds.

The Blazers got 18 points from Alverio and 15 points and nine assists from junior guard Aswad Thomas (Hartford, CT).
