Men's Basketball Pulls Past Maine-Farmington, 78-57

CHICOPEE, MA, Jan. 12, 2007 - Elms College junior forward Renato Lindmets (Springfield, MA) poured in a game-high 24 points and junior guard Randy Hite (Hartford, CT) added 15 points to help the Blazers pull away to a 78-57 win over the University of Maine-Farmington in Friday night's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's basketball game at the Maguire Center.

Elms College won its third straight game to improve to 7-5 overall, 3-1 NAC. Maine-Farmington lost its fifth consecutive game and fell to 4-8 overall, 1-1 NAC.

Lindmets was dominant inside, as he poured in 18 of his points on 7 of 9 shooting in the opening half to help spark the Blazers to a 39-32 lead at intermission.

The Blazers jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead in the game's opening 2:11 before the Beavers responded with a 10-4 run to cut the deficit to 12-10 five minutes into the half.

Elms College pulled ahead 29-20 with 8:32 left in the opening half courtesy of a 17-10 run for its seven-point halftime lead.

The Blazers then capitalized on 13 second half turnovers by the Beavers and sealed the victory with a 20-9 run over the game's final 10 minutes.

Hite's 15 points and eight rebounds were both season-highs, and senior point guard John Ancrum (Harlem, NY) handed out a game-high eight assists for the Blazers in the victory.

Junior guard Isaac Hutchinson (Oakland, ME) finished with a team-high 18 points, junior forward Sean Fry (Jay, ME) added 10 points and freshman forward Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) registered seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Beavers in the loss.

Elms College returns to NAC play when it hosts Thomas College on Saturday, January 13. Game time is 3:00 p.m. at the Maguire Center.
