IN OPENING ROUND OF SIG MAKOFSKI INVITATIONAL

SCHENECTADY, NY, Jan. 5, 2007 - Elms College junior forward Renato Lindmets (Springfield, MA) led all scorers with a game-high 21 points, but No. 15 Bates College placed three players in double figures and raced out to a 15-point halftime lead en route to a 73-56 none-conference men's basketball win over the Blazers in Friday night's opening round of the Sig Makofski Invitational hosted by Union College at the Viniar Athletic Center.

With the loss, Elms College (4-5) will play in Saturday's 1:00 p.m. third place game against the Union/Mount St. Vincent loser. Bates (9-0), which is currently ranked 15th nationally in the latest D3hoops.com poll, will play in Saturday's 3:00 p.m. title game.

Bates shot 56-percent from the field to build a 42-27 lead at intermission.

Senior point guard John Ancrum (Harlem, NY) scored eight points for the Blazers, who had no other players reach double figures in Friday's loss.
