FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO LASELL ,9-2

CHICOPEE, MA, Oct. 8, 2008 - Lasell junior forward Caitlyn Walker (Middlebury, CT) exploded for a collegiate career-high six goals and the Lasers scored six times in the first half en route to a 9-2 win over the Blazers in Wednesday night's non-conference field hockey game at Leary Field.

Elms College (3-8) had its two-game win streak snapped, while Lasell improved to 5-6.

Junior forward Sarah Lapolice (West Springfield, MA) gave the Blazers a quick 1-0 lead just 2:05 into the game off an assist from sophomore midfielder Jillian Burrows (Pembroke, MA).

Walker responded just 2:29 later with her first goal of the game before senior midfielder Stephanie Jansen (Glen, NH) and sophomore forward Tia Pratt (South Paris, ME) followed with tallies in the 9th and 17th minutes to pull the Lasers ahead 3-1.

Walker then put the game out of reach with three more goals just 2:38 apart in the 21st, 23rd and 24th minutes to stake Lasell to a commanding 6-1 lead at intermission.

Freshman forward Kasey Looney (Leicester, MA) scored her first collegiate goal in the 46th minute to build the Lasers' lead to 7-1.

Although senior midfielder Ellen Silva's (Palmer, MA) fourth goal of the year pulled the Blazers to within 7-2, Walker added her team-leading 14th and 15th goals of the season in the game's final 2:32 to close the scoring.

Freshman goalkeeper Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) stopped four shots to post her third win of the year, while Elms College senior goalkeeper Katelyn Wasgatt (Worcester, MA) made 16 saves.

Elms College returns to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play at Wheelock on Saturday, October 11. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
