CHICOPEE, MA, Oct. 16, 2008 - Elms College senior forward Sarah Lapolice (West Springfield, MA) and sophomore forward Courtney Gilmore (Mansfield, MA) each scored a goal to help the Blazers rally for a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Daniel Webster College in Thursday night's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game at Leary Field.

Elms College snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 4-10 overall, 3-3 NECC. Daniel Webster, meanwhile, lost its second straight and fell to 5-5, 4-2 NECC.

Freshman midfielder Natalie Bates (North Kingstown, RI) tallied her fourth goal of the year in the 17th minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

On the play, freshman defender Heather Chaney (Jay, ME) gathered freshman defender Sarah Steves' (North Granville, NY) penalty corner hit at the top of the circle, then sent a beautiful one-touch pass to Bates, who wasted no time in blasting a shot past Elms College senior goalkeeper Katelyn Wasgatt (Worcester, MA).

The Blazers tied the game at 1-all just 3:48 later when Lapolice gathered a rebound and hammered home a one-timer from deep inside the circle for her fourth goal of the season.

Gilmore followed with her second goal of the season with 2:26 remaining in the first half for what stood as the eventual game-winner.

Wasgatt came up big for the Blazers, as she finished with seven saves, including two sensational point-blank stops to rob Daniel Webster freshman midfielder Nicole Legere (Bangor, ME) and Chaney of certain goals in the 61st and 62nd minutes, respectively.

Freshman goalkeeper Amy Prince (Hope Valley, RI) was solid, as she stopped 10 shots for the Eagles, who were outshot by the Blazers 17-10.

Elms College returns to NECC play on Saturday, October 18 at Bay Path. Game time is 11:30 a.m. Daniel Webster also returns to action on Saturday, October 18 at 11:30 a.m. with a game at Lasell.
