FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO BECKER, 2-1

CHICOPEE, MA Oct. 25, 2008 - Becker freshman midfielder Victoria Sirchia (Goshen, CT) and junior midfielder Rachel Fink (Bath, PA) and each scored a goal and the Hawks rallied from an early deficit to post a 2-1 win over Elms College in Saturday's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game at Leary Field.

With its victory, Becker improved to 10-9 overall and claimed the NECC's first-ever regular season title at 8-0. Elms College fell to 5-12, 4-4 NECC.

Both teams will now await their seeding in the upcoming NECC Tournament.

Sophomore forward Denise Perks (Blackstone, MA) gave the Blazers a quick 1-0 lead with her team-leading eighth goal of the year just 4:51 into the game off a pass from senior midfielder Ellen Silva (Palmer, MA).

Sirchia answered with her conference-leading 14th goal of the year for the Hawks just 3:06 later to knot the game at 1-1.

Fink netted her first goal of the season to provide the eventual game-winner in the 52nd minute for the Hawks, who held huge advantages in both shots (20-1) and penalty corners (20-0).

 

Senior goalkeeper Katelyn Wasgatt (Worcester, MA) turned aside 12 shots for Elms College in the loss.
