FIELD HOCKEY SHUTS OUT BAY PATH, 5-0

CHICOPEE, MA, Oct. 4, 2008- Elms College sophomore midfielder Denise Perks (Blackstone, MA) netted three goals to lead the Blazers past Bay Path 5-0 in Saturday afternoon's  New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game at Leary Field.

The Blazers won their second straight game and improved to 3-7, 2-2 NECC. Bay Path lost their eighth straight and fell 0-4, 0-4 NECC.

Perks quickly opened the scoring for the Blazers in just the 6th minute off an assist by senior defender Ellen Silva (Palmer, MA), then added her second goal of the game four minutes later to put the Blazers up 2-0.

Junior forward Danielle Boyer (South Hadley, MA) netted her second goal of the season off a centering pass from Christine Fleury (South Hadley, MA) extending the Blazers' advantage to 3-0 in the 27th minute.

Perks scored her seventh goal of the season in the 49th minute on a breakaway giving the Blazers a 4-0 lead. Senior forward Sarah Lapolice (West Springfield, MA) added an unassisted goal in the 67th minute to conclude the scoring. 

Bay Path sophomore goalkeeper Kim Amirault (Saugus, MA) finished with nine saves in the losing effort.

The Blazers return to action when it hosts Lasell in a non-conference game Wednesday, October 8. Game time at Leary Field is 7:00 p.m.
