FIELD HOCKEY FALLS AT ANNA MARIA, 3-1

Box score

PAXTON, MA, Oct. 23, 2008 - Freshman Katie Schebel (Ludlow, MA) scored two goals while junior Angela Giuffrida (Leicester, MA) added a goal and an assist to lift Anna Maria to a 3-1 victory over Elms College in Thursday's non-conference field hockey game at Alumni Field.

The Blazers had a two-game win streak snapped and fell to 5-11, while the host Amcats improved to 3-14.

Giuffrida got the scoring started in the 29th minute of play, as she eluded a pair of defenders and fired a shot past Elms goalkeeper senior goalkeeper Katelyn Wasgatt (Worcester, MA) to put the Amcats up 1-0.

Schebel would score in the 42nd minute for her third goal in as many games off a fine feed from sophomore Emily Nugent (Worcester, MA) to extend the Amcats lead to 2-0.

The Blazers battled back and cut the deficit in half when senior Ellen Silva (Palmer, MA) deflected a pass from junior Danielle Boyer (South Hadley, MA) past Anna Maria goalkeeper Allyssa Boykin (Worcester, MA).

Schebel, however, would ice the 3-1 win with her second goal of the game, assisted by both Giuffrida and sophomore Sarah Boyda (Oxford, MA) on a beautifully executed penalty corner.

Elms College concludes its regular season when it hosts New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) frontrunner Becker on Saturday, October 25 as part of both Homecoming and Senior Day. Game time at Leary Field is 11:00 a.m.
