Wood, Jacobs Honored By NECC

WOOD, JACOBS HONORED BY NECC

ATTLEBORO, MA, April 20, 2009 - Baseball sophomore pitcher Matt Wood (Feeding Hills, MA) and junior designated hitter Justin Jacobs (Springhill, FL) were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) on Monday, April 20.

Wood was named NECC Pitcher of the Week, as he posted his first collegiate no- hitter and the first in Elms College program-history to lead the Blazers to a 6-0 home win over Newbury in the second game of Saturday's conference doubleheader.

Wood finished with eight strikeouts and issued just two first-inning walks en route to his third win of the season. For the year, Wood is now 3-2 with a team-leading 1.88 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 43.0 innings of work.

Jacobs was named NECC Player of the Week, as he posted his first collegiate-career three home run week and batted a sizzling .579 (11 for 19) with three homers, two doubles and nine RBI.

For the year, Jacobs leads the Blazers with a .444 batting average and .741 slugging percentage in 20 games.
