HOLYOKE, MA. April 20, 2008 - Elms College sophomore pitcher Dan Ingraham (Granby, MA) threw six solid innings in game one, and junior third baseman Mike Andrews (Greenfield, MA) combined to go 3 for 5 with four RBI and three runs scored in two games to lead the Blazers to a sweep over Newbury with 22-4 and 9-3 victories in Sunday afternoon's non-conference baseball doubleheader held at MacKenzie Stadium.

With the sweep, Elms College improved to 9-14 on the season while Newbury dropped to 3-20.

Elms College jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning of game one.  Freshman second baseman Albert Betances (Haverhill, MA) recorded an RBI single to give the Blazers a 1-0 advantage.  Following Betances' single, Andrews roped a two RBI double to right field and senior catcher Joe Sawa (Chicopee, MA) blasted an RBI triple.

Elms College erupted for twelve runs on eight hits in the sixth inning.  Overall the Blazers pounded out 18 hits in game one.

Ingraham yielded four earned runs on nine hits to post his second win of the year.

Newbury freshman outfielder Justin Adams (East Providence, RI) went 1 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored in the losing effort.

In game two the Blazers jumped out to an early lead once again, scoring six runs on five hits in the first inning.  Andrews smashed an RBI triple and the next batter Sawa looped an RBI single to center field.  Sophomore right fielder Justin Jacobs (Springhill, FL) recorded an RBI single and freshman second baseman Mike Bedson (Moriches, NY) smashed an RBI double to left field.

Newbury sophomore center fielder William Maddock (Marshfield, MA) finished game two 3 for 4 with two RBI to lead the Nighthawks offensively.

Elms College would eventually add single tallies in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to ensure the victory.

Elms College senior pitcher Ted Roback (Manchester, CT) surrendered just seven hits and two earned runs in six innings to earn his first victory of the season.

Elms College returns to non-conference play Monday, April 21 when the Blazers host Clark.  Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
