Baseball Earns First-Ever Sweep Over Husson

Blazers move atop the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) standings
at 4-0
BANGOR, ME, April 11, 2008 - Elms College junior pitcher RJ Vassallie (Long Branch, NJ) and sophomore pitcher Mike Bieber (Wading River, NY) each threw complete-game efforts to help the Blazers to 6-3 and 1-0 victories over Husson College in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) baseball doubleheader at the Winkin Complex on Friday afternoon.
Elms College, which earned its first-ever sweep over Husson, won for the fourth time in five games to improve to 7-11, 4-0 NAC. Husson lost its fifth straight and fell to 6-15, 1-3 NAC.
In game one, sophomore infielder Justin Jacobs (Springhill, FL) went 1 for 3 with three RBI, while freshman shortstop Brendan Cordeiro (Berkley, MA) and senior outfielder Joe Ferry (Palmer, MA) each went 2 for 3.
In game two, senior first baseman Scott Netkovick (South Hadley, MA) scored the game's lone run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Cordeiro.
Vassallie and Bieber each posted their second wins of the season for the Blazers.
Elms College returns to non-conference play when it hosts Rhode Island College on Monday, April 14 at MacKenzie Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
