A Night In Honor Of David Hildebrandt

ELMS COLLEGE AND NEWBURY COLLEGE TO HONOR
THE LIFE OF DAVID HILDEBRANDT ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 31

CHICOPEE, MA, Jan. 21, 2009 -Elms College invites everyone to a special tribute in honor of David Hildebrandt during its men's volleyball home match against Newbury College on Saturday, January 31 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Maguire Center.

Prior to the match, members of the Elms College men and women's volleyball teams will present their Newbury counterparts with special commemorative medallions honoring David.

David, who coached both the men and women's volleyball programs at Newbury for the past seven years, was hired last May to head both volleyball teams at Elms College, but died tragically in a drowning accident while vacationing with friends this past August. At the time of his passing, David was just 29 years old.

Immediately following the match, all are invited to attend a reception in the Maguire Center to share memories and view a slideshow compiled by friends in celebration of David's life.

The 7:00 p.m. match will conclude Elms College's first-ever "Pink Out" Day. Earlier in the day, both the men and women's basketball teams will host New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) foe Daniel Webster (men's game is at 1:00 p.m. and the women follow at 3:00 p.m.)

Everyone in attendance that Saturday is asked to wear pink. Admission for those fans wearing pink is free. Those not dressed in pink will be charged $5 (adults) and $2 (children and students).

As an effort to help raise funds for breast cancer research, the NECC's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) proposed the sale of t-shirts by each of the conference's nine member institutions.

The NECC sponsored a contest on its website with several t-shirt logo designs, and following the results of an online poll, Elms College's "Pink Out" design was chosen as the winner.

T-shirts with the winning logo will be sold throughout the week of January 26-30. The cost for each shirt is $10. Advance sales can be placed by contacting athletic department administrative assistant Anne Clark via e-mail at clarka@elms.edu

All proceeds from the College's "Pink Out" Day will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. For more information on the Komen Foundation, visit http://ww5.komen.org/
