Cross Country To Host 2009 NECC Championships

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College men's and women's cross country teams will host the 2009 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championships. The men's 8-kilometer race will begin at 11 a.m., with the women's 5-kilometer race to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Chicopee Memorial State Park.

Daniel Webster earned team honors on the men’s side, while Lesley was the top women’s team in the inaugural NECC Championship meet in 2008. Herrell Siller Jr. of Newbury College was the top individual finisher in the men’s race, while Charlotte Goff of Lesley finished first overall in the women’s race last season.

The Elms College men's team is led by senior Ryan Sullivan (Lenox, MA), junior Nick Whitman (Florence, MA), sophomore Ben Kronlund (Longmeadow, MA), and freshman Brendan Warren (Arlington, MA).

Junior Alycia Dabrowski (Chicopee, MA), the NECC's Runner of the Week on October 17, leads the way for the Elms women, followed by senior Amanda Koch (Williston, VT). Rounding out the top five for the women are Chantal Wakefield (East Longmeadow, MA), and sophomores Becka Boisseau (Chicoppe, MA) and Jennifer Cicero (Chicopee, MA).

Directions to the event are as follows: Exit 6 off the Mass Pike, stay to the right after the toll. At the end of the exit, turn right on to Burnett Road. Travel approximately half a mile on Burnett and the entrance to the park will be on your left.
