Women's Soccer Takes 3-1 Loss At NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Elms College women's soccer team suffered just its second New England Collegiate Conference loss on Saturday, falling 3-1 at New England College.

The Pilgrims (10-7-2, 6-1-1 NECC) constructed a 2-0 at halftime behind the boot of Michaela Pomeroy (Thetford, Vt.). In the 20th minute, Pomeroy beat Blazer goalkeeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) to a loose ball and chipped it into the back of the net to give NEC a 1-0 lead.

Pomeroy struck again in the 32nd minute and the Pilgrims nursed the two-goal advantage for 45 minutes until Shannon Denault (Chicopee, Mass.) scored to cut the deficit in half in the 78th minute. The Pilgrims, however, denied Elms a chance at an equalizer with an 86th minute goal from Tara Bainbridge (South Hadley, Mass.).

NEC held a 21-15 edge in shots in the game and an 11-9 lead in shots on-goal. Molin and counterpart Kayla Pugliese (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) were both busy in net, making eight saves apiece.

Both teams will wrap up the regular season on Oct. 24. Elms will play at Eastern Nazarene College while NEC will visit Mitchell College.
