Women's Soccer Downed By Westfield State

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Elms College women's soccer team went head-to-head with the Westfield State University Owls on Wednesday night on Leary Field. It was a tough battle throughout the contest with WSU edging out the Blazers with a one 1-0 victory.

Neither side was able to sustain an offensive presence, with each finishing with six shots. The lone goal came off the foot of Jenn Rennich (Bedford, Mass.) from an assist by Madison Dufries (Leicester, Mass.) to give the Owls (5-3-1) the lead in the 15th minute.

There was not a lot of action for the remainder of the game with Elms (6-4-1) only getting a single corner kick while WSU earned two. WSU goal keeper Natalia Falcone (Sutton, Mass.) played 73 minutes and had the only two Owl saves of the night.

Elms keeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) played the entire game with two saves, allowing one goal. WSU also caught a yellow card early in the second half, the card went to Juliana Templeman (East Longmeadow, Mass.)

Both teams will play again on Oct. 6 as WSU will be at Mass. Maritime while Elms will next at Mitchell College.
