Cross Country Runs For Epilepsy Awareness

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College men's and women's cross country programs completed a 100-mile relay last Sunday in an effort to raise awareness about Epilepsy in the local community. The Blazers set their fundraising goal at $1,000 dollars, which will wrap up this Friday, April 10th.

The Elms College Cross Country Team in support of the Epilepsy Foundation and junior captain Jackie Quetti, who is living with Epilepsy, ran a 100-mile relay for epilepsy awareness on Sunday, March 29th. The Blazers accomplished the feat by running continuously around the Elms College campus and passing a baton from runner to runner on our team.

"The Cross Country Program would like to thank you for your generosity in support of our 100 mile relay for Epilepsy awareness," said Elms Head Coach Matt Dyer. "We were able to successfully complete the hundred mile relay around campus this past Sunday in 14 hours and 20 minutes."

An estimated 3 million Americans and 65 million people worldwide currently live with epilepsy, a disorder of the nervous system that can cause people to suddenly become unconscious and/or to have violent uncontrolled movements of the body. The Epilepsy Foundation is working to secure more funding for a cure, support community-based programs for people living with epilepsy, eradicate stigma and discrimination, and protect patient access to medications and treatment.

The money raised from the relay will be put toward Jackie's team at Springfield Walk for Epilepsy on Saturday, April 18th, and all proceeds will be donated to the Epilepsy Foundation.
