Cross Country Competes at Western New England University Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Elms College freshman Rachel Lehouillier (Belchertown, Mass.) was the Blazers' top overall finisher with a time of 22:53 in the women's 5-kilometer race, while senior Benjamin Kronlund (Longmeadow, Mass.) registered a time of 35:54 in the men's 8-kilometer race in Saturday's Western New England University cross country invitational in Springfield, Mass.

In the men's race, Antoine Gisore of New England College was the top overall finisher in the field of 177 runners, powering to a time of 26:08. Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) was the top team winner notching a score of 45, while Westfield State University (53) and Roger Williams University (97) placed second and third respectively.

In the women's race, Westfield State University's Amy Trainique was the fastest overall finisher in the field of 191 runners with a time of 19:12. The Owls won the event as a team as well with a combined score of 30, placing four runners in the top five, followed by WPI (42) and Clark University (97).

On the men's side, freshman Jessie Murray (Springfield, Mass.) placed second for the Blazers (38:46), while senior Michael Desmond (Nashua, N.H.) (46:41) and Nicholas Green (Ware, Mass.) (51:35) rounded out Elms' four runners.

For the women, Lehouillier raced to a stellar time of 22:53 placing 82nd overall in the field of 191 runners. Freshman Meghan Sullivan (Springfield, Mass.) was the next Elms finisher (25:38), followed by sophomore Kerry Ashe (Springfield, Mass.) (26:29), freshman Emily Taylor (Ludlow, Mass.) (27:18), sophomore Gabrielle Calvanese (Agawam, Mass.) (27:30), sophomore Sarah Jane Dyer (Hinsdale, Mass.) (30:59), freshman Madison Boehm (Sutton, Mass.) (32:54), sophomore Stephanie Konstantinidis (Holyoke, Mass.) (33:23), and freshman Emily Murphy (39:34).

The Blazers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship hosted by Daniel Webster College. The women's race is slated for 12:00 p.m. with the men's race an hour earlier at 11:00 a.m.
