Cosenza, Lane Run in 2012 Boston Marathon

BOSTON, Mass. - Elms College first-year field hockey head coach Kim Cosenza and eighth-year men's and women's cross country head coach Amy Lane competed in the 2012 Boston Marathon on April 16.

Coach Lane has run in six Boston Marathons and in 2012, turned in a time of 3 hours and 34 minutes. Coach Cosenza competed in the event for the very first time and finished in a time 5 hours and 42 minutes.

"With the extreme heat, folks certainly had to readjust their goals, and focus on just finishing the Boston Marathon," Coach Lane explained. "I am pretty proud that both Kim and I made it!  Kim finished her first marathon EVER in those conditions - that's pretty darn tough!"

Though it wasn't her best time, Coach Lane, who is currently one of the top trail runners in New England, one of the top ultra runners in the country, and holds numerous trail and ultra course records throughout the region, has qualified for next year's Boston Marathon.

Coach Cosenza, competing in her first-ever marathon, had an experience unlike any other she has had.

"While completing the Boston Marathon was such an unreal experience, it was my road to the marathon that made it such an empowering journey," Coach Cosenza said. "Amy Lane gave me the best advice the Friday before telling me to trust my training, stay hydrated and just have fun. I did just that. Thanks to my family, friends, the Elms College athletics department, and the field hockey team we were able to raise $4,277 for Dana-Farber in honor of Cathy Roumbakis."
