CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College Tom Weldon (Springfield, Mass.) added the final piece to his postseason awards catalog, earning a Third Team All-American designation on the 2016 ABCA/Rawlings Division III All-American team, announced by ABCA/Rawlings Thursday evening. Weldon becomes the first player in program history to be named an ABCA/Rawlings All-American.

Weldon was named ABCA/Rawlings Division III New England Pitcher of the Year and All-New England First Team earlier this week.

Weldon wrapped his Blazers career as one of the top pitchers in program history. As a senior, Tom set the program mark for wins in a season with an 11-1 mark, ranking second in the nation in victories. Tom racked up 93 strikeouts, tenth-most in the country, in 93.1 innings of work with six complete games, en route to the NECC Pitcher of the Year award. Weldon owns the program record for career wins, career innings pitched, career shutout, career strikeouts, games started in a season, wins in a season, strikeouts in a season, innings pitched in a season, and strikeouts in a game.

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.

The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 8,200 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth. The 73rd annual ABCA Convention will be held Jan. 5-8, 2017 in Anaheim, California.
