NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Elms College baseball squad dropped a non-conference game to host MCLA, 10-3, at Joe Wolfe Field Thursday afternoon. The Blazers slide to 27-10 overall, while the Trailblazers improve to 4-18 on the season.

The Trailblazers jumped on the Blazers early, tacking five runs on the board in the bottom of the first. Sophomore Liam Nolan (Pittsfield, Mass.) belted a two-run home run to left field to give MCLA a 2-0 lead. With two outs, senior Slayter Aubin (Adams, Mass.) drove in a pair with a single, followed by an RBI single from sophomore Nick DiSanti (Pittsfield, Mass.) to hand the Trailblazers a 5-0 advantage.

The Blazers chipped away at the lead in the top of the third as junior Aedin Wadja (Lebanon, Conn.) brought home senior R.J. Lyrenmann (Glendale, Ariz.) with an RBI single, and then came around to score on an RBI single from junior Stephen Harrison (Southbury, Conn.) to trim the deficit to 5-2. Elms made it 5-3 in the fourth with junior Brian Hungerford (New Preston, Conn.) scoring on a groundout by Lyrenmann.

Leading 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh, the Trailblazers closed the door on the Blazers with a four-run inning, fueled by RBI singles from sophomore Andrew Casteel (Fairhaven, Mass.) and Nolan to send MCLA to 10-3 win.

Harrison led the Blazers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Wadja drove in a run and score, while Hungerford and Lyrenmann both touched home. Elms freshman Anthony Palumbo (Bedford, N.Y.) went six innings in his first collegiate start, allowing six runs. Junior Anthony Garde (Westfield, Mass.) and senior Peter Gilbert (Easthampton, Mass.) each worked an inning of relief.

The Trailblazers tallied 17 hits, paced by Cassel with three hits and an RBI. Nolan drove in four runs on two hits, while Aubin knocked in two runs and score twice in the win. Senior Nate Alibozek (1-2; Adams, Mass.) claimed the win, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts.

The Blazers will be back in action when they host Southern Vermont in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) doubleheader at MacKenzie Stadium Saturday at 1:00 p.m. MCLA hosts Bridgewater State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
