Baseball Splits With Illinois College, Thursday

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Elms College sophomore lefty Zach LeBarron (Bennington, Vt.) provided a complete-game, 10-strikeout performance in game one of the Blazers' doubleheader with Illinois College. Elms won the first game 3-2, before falling 5-3 in the second contest to complete baseball action at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers.

With the split, Elms moves to 4-5 on the season.

Game One

LeBarron pitched all seven innings, while freshman outfielder Stephen Fisher (West Boylston, Mass.) went 2 for 4 at the plate. Sophomore infielder Nicolino Iavicoli (Hampden, Mass.) and senior infielder Mike Andrews (Greenfield, Mass.) each registered a hit and drove in a run to lift the Blazers to a thrilling 3-2 victory.

Game Two

In the second contest, senior right-hander Mike Bieber (Wading River, N.Y.) hurled six stellar innings and fanned three batters but took the loss.

Blazers' junior shortstop Brendan Cordeiro (Berkley, Mass.) sparked Elms' offensive efforts with a 2 for 4 effort at the dish with an RBI and a run scored.

Elms returns to non-conference action on Tuesday, March 23 with a 3:30 p.m. contest at Westfield State College.
