Iavicoli, Burnette and Russell Compete In Baseball Exhibition Game

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Elms College sophomore third baseman Nicolino Iavicoli (Hamden, Mass.) and freshmen pitchers Ryan Burnette (Chicopee, Mass.) and John Russell (Springfield, Mass.) recently competed as part of a college all-star squad in an exhibition baseball contest against the Pittsfield Colonials of the Can-Am League at Walker Grandstand at Forest Park in Springfield.

Elms was one of three area colleges represented at the game, joined by Westfield State College and Holyoke Community College. The college all-stars defeated Pittsfield 9-3 in the first professional baseball game played in Springfield since 1965.

Iavicoli collected three hits for the college all-stars en route to being named the game's Most Valuable Player. Russell pitched two innings of relief and did not allow a run, while Burnette also saw action on hill for the Blazers.
