MEN'S BASKETBALL RALLIES PAST MOUNT IDA, 79-78

Box score

CHICOPEE, MA, Feb. 6, 2006 - Elms College senior guard David Williams (Hartford, CT) dropped in a team-high 22 points, and senior point guard John Ancrum (Harlem, NY) converted a 3-point play with 23 seconds remaining to lift the Blazers to a 79-78 come-from-behind victory over Mount Ida College in Tuesday night's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's basketball game at the Mount Ida Athletic Center.

The Blazers trailed 78-75 with 1:14 remaining before Williams hit the backend of two free throws to cut the deficit to 78-76.

Following a Mount Ida turnover on its next possession, Ancrum was fouled and converted the layup that knotted the game at 78-78. He then sank what stood as the game-winning free throw to complete the 3-point play.

Mount Ida had two great opportunities to win the game, but missed a pair of layups in the game's final eight seconds.

Elms College won its sixth straight game to improve to 14-6 overall, 9-1 NAC. Mount Ida fell to 5-15 overall, 1-8 NAC.

Freshman guard Juan Galdon (Holyoke, MA) netted 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and junior forward Nate Hawes (New Hope, MN) added seven points and a game-high 17 rebounds in the victory.

Senior forward Doug Williams (Ellicot City, MD) and senior guard Andreas Vasiliu (Newton, MA) combined for 46 points for the Mustangs in the loss.

Elms College returns to NAC play on Thursday, February 8 at Becker College. Tip-off is 6:00 p.m.
