Basketball Teams "Think Pink" To Promote Breast Cancer Research

BASKETBALL TEAMS "THINK PINK" TO PROMOTE BREAST CANCER RESEARCH

CHICOPEE, MA, Feb. 5, 2007 - As part of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) efforts to raise breast cancer awareness, the Elms College men and women's basketball teams raised $278.80 during a "Think Pink" day that took place during their games against Johnson State College on Saturday, February 3 at the Maguire Center.

Everyone in attendance was asked to wear pink and donate a minimum of $1 for breast cancer research. All proceeds collected were donated directly to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

"Most of the effort goes to (Elms College women's basketball coach) Laura Habacker for organizing the idea to ‘Think Pink,'" Elms College Director of Athletics Louise McCleary noted. "The fact that the day was coordinated with Alumni games and an open house made the event that much more successful. Much of the credit also goes to both Elms College and Johnson State personnel and students who joined together to raise awareness. Doing this on only three days notice was tremendous and helped raise awareness on such an important issue."
