Cross Country Competes at James Earley Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Elms College junior Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) finished the women's 6-kilometer race in a time of 28:15.71 as the men's and women's cross country teams competed at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Blazers' men's team did not score, while the women's team placed 38th out 43 teams.

Middlebury College placed first in the team category and had four of the top five individual finishers including Jack Davies who clocked a time of 25:40.96 in the 8-kilometer jaunt. Amherst College came in second with a score of 111, Connecticut College registered a score of 140 to place third, WPI came in fourth (154) and the US Coast Guard Academy rounded out the top five with a mark of 155.

Middlebury also came in first on the women's side (28), followed by Amherst (64), Wellesley College (158), Colby-Sawyer College (177) and host Westfield State (228) to round out the top five. Amherst's Keri Lambert was the top scorer for the women with a time of 21:30.11.

Elms freshman Adam Kuzdzal (Chicopee, Mass.) clocked a time of 38:41.07 and was the Blazers' first runner to cross the finish line, followed by sophomore Nick Green (Ware, Mass.) with a time of 53:19.00.

For the women, DeGrazia came in 276th overall in the field of 453 female runners with a time of 28:15.71. Sophomore Rachel Lehouillier (Belchertown, Mass.) was the Blazers' second runner to cross the finish line, notching a time of 28:37.50.

Elms' freshman Emma Bernard (Springfield, Mass.) registered a time of 30:43.14, juniorKerry Ashe (Springfield, Mass.), sophomore Shirley Ryan (Brimfield, Mass.) clocked a time of 32:23.52, sophomore Meghan Sullivan (Springfield, Mass.) notched a time of 33:09.25, sophomore Emily Taylor (Ludlow, Mass.) added a time of 34:36.92, and junior Stephanie Konstantinidis (Holyoke, Mass.) registered a mark of 40:46.20 to highlight Elms' runners.

Elms is back in action at the Western New England University Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13. The women's race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and the men's race is set to begin at 11:15 a.m.
